You can pretty much choose whether you'd like to live in a city apartment, or a small house in a village. Either way, you're going to be within a 10 mile radius of anywhere you'll typically need to go on a normal day. We're on a quest to find the right village, or the maybe the right apartment, we're not sure which.
We know we want to live someplace "cool", but that could be a quaint village, or a super-modern apartment with a city view. What we don't want is a very normal suburban house, because we've done that before.
Today we drove through some villages to see what they look like and what they offer. Roads, fields, cobblestones, vineyards...The tough part is that lots of Germans go on holiday in August and consequently there aren't a lot of houses for rent right now. Also, the big moving season anywhere is usually right after the school year ends. So we missed the big turnover in rentals.
